Agility trials are competitions. At agility trials you and your dog can compete against other handler–dog teams for speed and accuracy. Trial judges design courses of 15–20 obstacles for each event. The competitors see the course for the first time on the day of the event. Handlers and their dogs can first have a “walk–through” in order to learn the course and develop a strategy for their dog.
During the event, competitors have 30–60 seconds to command their dog through the course. The dog must take the obstacles in the correct order and direction, and dogs must perform each of the obstacles in the correct manner.
Competitors are divided into Starters, Advanced and Masters categories depending on the skill level of the handler–dog team. Agility trial events can include standard, snooker, team relay, gambler, and jumper to name a few. |
